Juxtaposition

14Mar08

It is currently 12.30AM. Which means it’s Wednesday! Which means Juxtaposition’s first comic is officially up and ready for viewing! YAY!

I am obviously not above guerilla traffic-generating tactics, which means you shouldn’t be either. Plug! It’s fun!

Bookmark it. I’ll be updating twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Infinizine

07Sep07

I’m making a zine. It gonna be awesome. I’m putting most of my philosophy rants in it. Some of Tea’s paintings will be in it. A few of my short stories. Casey’s going to adapt some of her essays into articles. I’m going to see if Dee will contribute some of her charcoal sketches.  I don’t know if I’ll actually pull it off. But maybe I will. At least one issue. Maybe I will. ^_^

So last night I spent three hours taping christmas lights to the back wall of the stage to use as a star effect in Kentucky Cycle. I arrived today only to find that alllllll the christmas lights had fallen off the wall over night.

So, lucky me…I got to re-hang them today. I tried it a different way and it only took me about two hours this time…but when I was done I plugged them in to find that half of each strand didn’t work. Despite the fact that they all worked perfectly when I tested them before hanging them on the wall. FUUUUCCCKKKK!!!! So naturally, I left them there to be fixed later and by someone else.

And naturally, that “someone else” will end up being me.

THEN!! I spent two and a half hours going over scene shifts with Allie, Dane and Cody. Fun shit. <–sarcasm

This all took place after one of the shittiest 6 hour technical rehearsals ever.

And here I am…1 small order of fries, 2 Red Bulls, 3 Cokes, 19 cigarettes and a fit of creepy, laughing hysterics later…

Guys…don’t go into theatre. It will kill you.

Philosophy

Many of these require further explanation. Ask questions. Or I’ll get around to explaining eventually, I’m sure. Feel free to post rants about how wrong I am too. Those are always fun! :)  <–not sarcasm

Things I Currently Believe:
▬everything that happens is due entirely to random chance
▬all humans have free will
▬as soon as a choice is made or an event takes place, it could never have happened any other way
▬truth is relative
▬conscience is relative
▬religion/God is relative
▬parameters are relative; definitions are not
▬our perceptions may not always be accurate but they are all we have to base our reason upon
▬our reason is always “correct,” considering the information available to it. but because the information may be flawed, our reason is not always “right”
▬the “infinite” and the “finite” are not mutually exclusive
▬the only absolute knowledge we can have is that we perceive (ex: we know that we perceive the sky is blue but we cannot know that the sky is, in fact, blue.)
▬”purpose” is not innate. it is random and evolutionary.
▬nothing tangible can be infinite. it can only be continuously growing.
▬”potential” can be (but is not necessarily) infinite
▬there are no innate ideas. ideas are based on experience.
▬no human being is obligated (i.e. duty bound) to contribute to socitey/eachother, however…
▬no human being possesses any rights that he or she did not earn through contribution or constructive use of those rights

Möbius strips! A THREE DIMENSIONAL SHAPE WITH ONLY ONE SIDE!!!!!!! AHHHH!!!! IT’S SO COOL!!!!!

A Theory

12Aug07

Assumption #1: Spatial infinity must have no perpetual starting point and no definitive ending point.

Ex: If you put your pencil on a piece of paper and draw a spiral that goes on forever, it is NOT infinite because there will always be a recognizable starting point.

However, a three-dimensional spiral that spirals out in opposite directions from one point IS spatially infinite. It’s beginning point will soon become obsolete and become indistinguishable from the rest of the spiral.

Assumption #2: Temporal infinity is defined the same way as spatial infinity; no beginning and no end.

Ex: The three-dimensional spiral that is spatially infinite, is NOT temporally infinite because it did, in fact, begin. There will always be a moment in time in which it was first formed and therefore the spiral does not adhere to this argument’s definition of infinity.

Thesis: “Infinite” and “finite” are not mutually exclusive. It is possible for a subject to be both infinite and not infinite at once. Alternately, just because something is NOT infinite does not necessarily mean that it IS finite and vice versa.

The Questions

12Aug07

Transcribed from my paper journal after a day of reading nothing but philosophy books.

Why is it so much easier nowadays for people to believe that something came from nothing than it is to believe that something always existed? Even in science…with that one law that states that matter can be neither created nor destroyed…even there, what’s the most popular theory for the beginning of the universe? The Big Bang Theory. Something from nothing. Why is that so much easier to grasp than infinity? Even for me.

Is the universe really infinite? How do we know? We just don’t know for sure that it DOES end. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it DOESN’T. How do we know that it’s infinite? And if it does have a boundary, with that assumption comes the additional question of what’s outside that boundary? Nothing? Another universe? How many other universes? All roads lead back to infinity. Nothing is an infinite answer…infinite absence. Zero and infinity are equally undefinable. And if there are more universes, how many? And what’s beyond THEIR boundaries? More universes? Infinity.

How long does time last? How long is forever? How long has time been in existence? Longer than the word for time? Longer than modern humans? Longer than the world? Longer than the universe itself? Does time need something to affect in order to exist? Does it go hand in hand with matter and when one ends so does the other? How long into the future will time continue to exist? How will we know when it doesn’t anymore? Will life continue? Does motion require time? Does thought? Do dreams? I think dreams are the only things that could possibly transcend time. Like in Waking Life. A fantastically intricate dream that seems to last for hours could only take one minute of actual time. Could dreams be another dimension, like length and depth and width and time? Could dreams be time itself? But maybe they can’t actually transcend time because despite the Waking Life thing, it still requires time, no matter how imperceptible an amount, to transmit the brainwaves that make dreams possible.

What is the definition of infinity? Does it mean having no boundaries at all? Does it mean having no beginning AND no end? Could it mean having a beginning but not an end? Or an end but no beginning? Like a spiral…we see those as spiraling into infinity, right? Like the spiral itself is infinite. You can conceivably put your pencil on a piece of paper and start drawing a spiral and keep drawing it forever. But it had a beginning. Is it still infinite?

You’re looking at the Rocky Horror Picture Show Virgin of the Night, ladies and gentlemen. Which means I shake my ass wonderfully and am apparently very good at condomizing bananas with my teeth (I didn’t know I could do that either). But other than that it means JACK SHIT!

Good good fun. The glowsticks were a wonderful idea. Got groped at the door. Got shouted at during the butt dance. Got sexually harrassed by the Criminologist. And I got a kiss on the forehead from Rocky. All in all, a well spent night.

Saw Sunshine again today. It’s still beyond words, my friends.

Ate tacos.

Held my breath through tunnels. Wrote love poems in my head.

Come on, Glowsticks! You can do better than that!

You know…I was thinking today…and by today I mean like right now…

I really don’t know why so many people like me or why they like me so much. I mean…I like me. But I never really expect anyone else to. And I’m always pleasantly surprised when people say nice things to me or about me or whatever. Cause, I dunno…it’s just always unexpected.

And it’s honestly very rare that I hear someone say something bad about me. I mean, it’s possible that I just don’t listen. Or that they make damn sure I never find out. But really…I can’t even remember a specific incident in the last few years where I’ve ACTUALLY been insulted. Or rather…where someone actually TRIED to insult me. And I don’t know why. Because I feel like I’m the kind of person who would be really easy to hate. *shrug*

I’m not complaining. I love me. And I’m glad there are others who feel the same way. It’s just that sometimes when I actually stop to think about it it weirds me out. I thought it was noteworthy.

The End. Carry on. ^_^

Here’s to my last day of Diablo II for a while. And here’s to being mercilessly guilt tripped by my mother for having plans that don’t include sitting at home and being her daughter.

Here’s to tomorrow! The highlight of my week. Here’s to returning videos so I don’t have late fees. And here’s to Friday.

Here’s to Saturday day with my mother, Saturday night at work and early Sunday morning with the party and the fun.

Here’s to movies on Monday and here’s to me hopefully remembering to get the address to Wesley.

Here’s to not knowing what or when I’m going to eat for the next week. Here’s to a lack of cigarettes. Here’s to feeling useless and here’s to pointless phone calls to fend off the boredom and probably the punching holes in walls too.

Here’s to summer homework that’s not getting done cause I’m working 40 hours a week. Here’s to throwing off my sleep pattern. Here’s to being recognized by the guy at NY Pizza. Here’s to the scab on my back that I can’t stop picking.

Here’s to vacations I don’t want and tan lines I do want. Here’s to furthering my career.

Here’s to getting the promotion without the raise and here’s to it being good enough!!

Here’s to frustration. Here’s to love. Here’s to friends. Here’s to connections. Here’s to electrocution.

Cheers!
